INVESTIGATION OF THE CBN CRYPTOCURRENCY BAN POLICY IN NIGERIA AND PUBLIC PERCEPTION

ABSTRACT

The main focus of this study is to find out the public perception of the CBN ban policy on cryptocurrency trade in Nigeria using Lagos State as case Study. The study adopted a survey research design and with the aid of convenient sampling method, the researcher enrolled 80 participants in the study who are Crypto currency investors and as well resident of Ikeja in Lagos State. A total of 77 responses were received and validated from the enrolled participants. Data was analyzed in simple percentage using frequencies and tables.Hypothesis was tested using ANOVA statistical tool (SPSS). Findings from the study revealed  that there is no positive perception about the CBN Crypto currency ban in Nigeria and thus there was no significance difference in the public perception as all were negative towards the ban. The study therefore recommends Nigeria government should regard cryptocurrency as a means of exchange, and its acceptance will aid the required regulation needed to guide against the use of it for crime and related matters. Also, with positive government intervention, and enabling environment to explore 21st century  opportunities of this offered by the cryptocurrency as more  market will be created for it in the economy and hence relieve the burden of unemployment.
